Personal Health Information Release Management
Western
Midrange Corporation Is proud to be a Strategic-Alliance Partner
and Value-added reseller for Universata's PHI-nd IT
Personal Health Information Release Management service
PHI-nd
IT("FIND IT") allows for the disclosure
of patient health information (PHI) in a HIPAA compliant manner.
It stands head and shoulders above competition from copy services,
even ones that use digitization and other technologies. PHI-nd
IT processes two kinds of HIPAA PHI disclosures:
patient-authorized and incidental. PHI-nd IT
is operated as a sophisticated enterprise-grade ASP service
by Universata, secured by 196-bit encryption algorithm, at
the IBM hosting center near Dulles Airport in Northern Virginia.
Because PHI-nd IT is an ASP application; each
user is always using the latest version of the application.
Actual operation of PHI-nd IT occurs at the Medical
Treatment Facility (MTF) location on a biometrically secured
laptop or PC with one or more high-speed scanners interacting
with the IBM center.
Feature
Rich Modules
PHI-ND
IT contains multiple elements that function interactively
to provide a powerful, feature rich application. For example:
- The
"Disclosure" feature allows PHI-nd IT
to digitally scan a medical record and make a disclosure
by secure e-mail / Internet, fax, or US mail as a FREE service
to the MTF by billing the requester of the medical record.
Because the medical record documents all aspects of a person's
health and medical treatments (the patient's PHI), it is
the "lifeblood" of communications and health care
transactions for this industry and many other industries
not obviously connected to healthcare.
- The
"Log AOD" feature allows an MTF to track incidental
disclosures, accidental or otherwise, that are required
for accountability to the patient under HIPAA. PHI-nd
IToffers this and many other additional features
as entirely free services to our MTF customers. Not only
does this differentiate PHI-nd ITbut also it
plays an important role in our MTF customers' efforts towards
being HIPAA compliant.
- PHI-nd
ITapplication program interface layer (API) works
to facilitate information capture and exchange with electronic
medical record (EMR) systems and other patient management
and clinical system commonly found in MTF's.
Electronic
Medical Records Exchange (EMRX)
Many Hospitals
and Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) desire to have all
of their active records accessible on-line 24/7 for use by
authorized outpatient providers.
PHI-nd
ITElectronic Medical Records Exchange (EMRX)was
designed for just this need. Authorized individuals can access
a patient's medical information securely from any browser
anytime anywhere. Most IDNs desire to tie their physicians
to their hospitals and clinics; EMRX services provide
that tie in. One Chief Technology Officer of an IDN told our
CEO that, "I have electronic medical records at all of
the hospitals in our Delivery system and most of our clinics;
however, I cannot get a paper medical record across the street
without a delivery person to hand carry it. PHI-nd ITand
the EMRX system is exactly what we need to complete
our modernization requirements."
Some of
the reasons for an EMRX that go far beyond fast, authorized
access are:
- patient
safety
- cost
reduction
- patient
confidentiality
- adaptability
of disclosures and,
- improved
revenue-cycle management.
Let's
take a look at the benefits:
- In
an auto accident in an ambulance on the way to emergency?
EMRX permits simultaneous authorized access to your
medical record in the ambulance, at the Emergency Department,
and on the physician's laptop at home as s/he updates before
s/he grabs a coat and leaves for the hospital.
- Allergic
to drugs? EMRX facilitates higher patient safety
& quality of care through quick & more reliable
delivery of requested medical records.
- Hate
rising medical costs? EMRX reduces courier costs
drastically.
- Worried
about your privacy? EMRX protects patient confidentiality
with strict access and audit controls.
- Courier
service too slow? EMRX permits authorized access
anywhere anytime.
- Wondering
who may be looking at your medical records? EMRX
can notify you every time an insurance company or other
party accesses your medical records.
- Is
your health insurance payer chronically slow? EMRX
enhances communication between the MTF and the insurance
payer.
Compelling
value proposition for medical treatment facility Value proposition
PHI-nd
IT's value proposition to medical treatment facilities
is compelling. PHI-nd ITis free to the MTF, including
the biometrically secured laptops and scanners. Our personnel
are well-trained and familiar with HIPAA rules and regulations.
Inasmuch as Universata personnel operate PHI-nd ITat
the MTF, capital expenditures for personnel or competing services
can be eliminated immediately. PHI-nd ITdisclosures
are insured against noncompliance up to $1,000,000.
Universata absorbs all disclosure costs, immediately eliminating
MTF expenditures associated with postage, copy machines, paper,
etc. Universata provides a royalty on collected revenue
back to the MTF as either a charitable donation or cash payment
at their discretion. This immediately converts an ongoing
COST of disclosure into a new revenue stream for the MTF.
